Vilanova i la Geltrú is a city and municipality in the province of Barcelona, capital of the Garraf region, formed by the municipalities of Vilanova and La Geltrú, Sitges, Sant Pere de Ribes, Cubelles, Canyelles and Olivella. Located halfway between the metropolitan areas of Barcelona and Tarragona, it has a surface area of 33.92 km2 of which 11.92 km2 (35%) are urban or urban land 22 km2 (65%) are undeveloped land, and a population of 65,684 inhabitants. The municipality is limited in the northeast to Canyelles, to the east by Sant Pere de Ribes, to the south by the Mediterranean Sea, to the west by Cubelles and to the northwest by the term of Castellet i la Gornal. The municipality includes, to the north and northwest, the last buttresses of the Garraf massif, the Plana occupying the rest of the territory, with a maritime facade of 6.6 km and 5 beaches (Long Beach, Sant Gervasi Beach, Playa de Ribes Roges and Playa de San Cristóbal) differentiated with a total length of 3.5 km, 42km from Barcelona and 50 km from Tarragona.
As for railway communications, the city is crossed by the line that connects Barcelona with Sant Vicenç de Calders and Tarragona. In this sense, add that in 2010 the Urban Master Plan of the Railway Orbital Line (LOF) was definitively approved, this line will unite different regions of the metropolitan region of Barcelona linking Vilanova with Mataró through the interior, with the aim of improving mobility by public transport from the municipalities of the second crown.
